I Tried Reformer Pilates - Here’s my Thoughts

Hi Reader Firstly, I want to thank everyone who came on Saturday to my Back Care Basics class, it was lovely to see some new and familiar faces and those that had travelled from afar 🧡🙏🏻 it was wonderful to take a deep dive into gently restoring moving for the back. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to take a reformer class. A really kind gesture from the owners of Central Wellness as a thank you to the teachers. I thought the timing for me was interesting, seeing as last week I’d finished...

Hi Reader As I walked to the post box this morning there was something that felt really strange, barely any traffic, or children walking to school, it felt like a Sunday, without the Sunday feel. It was a tumbleweed moment, where was everyone, had I woken in another dimension? Then my friend told me the game she was watching was really gripping, game? waited a moment then the penny dropped! I had no idea the re-run of the England v Mexico match was on. I'll admit, football isn't really my...

Clinical Somatics

Hi Reader This week I finally made time to listen to this brilliant podcast with Dr Chatterjee and Dr Howard Schubiner, several of my students, friends and colleagues had already mentioned it to me (yesterday it was Test Match Special, so this morning it was this! 😄). It's not just interesting, it's important and it had me nodding along as someone who has spent years working in the very same territory, just through the different door of movement. Dr Schubiner talks about the difference...

Hi Reader Another turn of the wheel after yesterday’s solstice and we really are feeling the sun's energy this week! I celebrated the solstice by staying outside until dark, watching the swifts, then the bats, listening to the birds as I sat in my swing (the best thing ever!), noticing the robin was the last to sing and also when the birdsong fades the sound of the traffic is clearer, which amazed me how loud birdsong can be. Yesterday, I’d been doing a lot of heavier gardening, lots of...

Hi Reader Despite the breezy weather on Saturday, I had a wonderful day teaching my retreat day at Aubourn Hall, sharing the day with such a lovely group, thank you for choosing to share your day with me 🙏🏻. The day included a fabulous garden tour, the perfect combination of nurturing movement to come home to ourselves and the healing qualities of being in nature. This week in my Somatics classes we move onto more weight bearing through the arms, we’re getting closer to being on hands and...

Hi Reader Another quick update from a very soggy Lincoln. I have a super busy week coming up, including my fully booked retreat day on Saturday and so I’m watching the weather like a hawk and hoping it is a least dry on the day! Last week in my somatics classes, I started the first in a series of classes all around building strength on top of ease and we went back to early developmental movements as our foundation, these are the most organic and as somatic as you can get, these build...

Hi Reader This is just a quick update, thank you so much for opening and reading this 🙏🏻 It’s been an emotional rollercoaster of a week and I’m so grateful to Sarah Guest who stepped in at short notice to help me out on Wednesday to support a loved one who is gravely ill. It is heartbreaking to see someone in pain and anguish and suffering and also knowing - for whatever reason they have neglected their wellbeing 😢. This week, I’ve witnessed physical struggles with weakness and lack of...

Hi Reader This is just a quick update, It’s a bank holiday here in the UK and a very hot and sunny one, so I’ve taken a moment to cool down out of the sun as I’ve been pottering in my garden. One of my favourite things to do, is to sit in my swing seat and watch the wildlife in my garden. My swing seat is one of the best things I have ever bought myself and it’s even more magical to watch the stars and bats come out at night. Early last evening I’ve found a shady spot and just laid out on the...

Hi Reader This week, I’m feeling very, very sad. Last week, I learned that a dear sweet friend had passed away, she lived in the US and we met on our yoga teacher training which was over 21 years ago and was the same age as me. My heart aches for her, her husband and two boys, she had been ill for almost three years and I began to know something was not right when recently she’d stopped replying to my messages, when her husband’s message came through, I was stunned, another reminder that life...

Hi Reader Thank you for opening this week’s newsletter and welcome if you are new here 🙏🏻 and I hope you had a lovely weekend? Last week in my village the swifts arrived back home - to their village, their homes and I cried with joy and relief. To me, they are the sound of summer, and a testament to resilience but their numbers are rapidly declining mainly due to their nesting sites being taken away, which absolutely breaks my heart especially as they return back to the same sites year after...
